As the Development Engineer Surgical, you will be in charge of the concept and initial design and of subassemblies of new generation of Surgical Robot System and incidental devices as part of Alliance & Engineering department. You expected to use machine design and analytical skills to conceptualize, develop, and verify new mechanical designs. You are responsible for future key components design and prototyping together with medical device companies as joint development partners. These works have to be done as feasibility study with agile development iterating the process of ideation, prototyping evaluation and improvement. You also work with other functions like Clinical Affair, RAQA (Regulatory Affair/Quality Management), Training/Education and Business Development team.

Responsibilities

  • Building the design concept for subassemblies for future devices or functions to satisfy market requirement and define product requirement specification.
  • Designing subassemblies and build 3D CAD model and 2D mechanical drawings for machining, injection molding, metal injection and 3D printing for feasibility study. 
  • Agile development and iteration of prototyping to satisfy the product requirement specification. 
  • Selecting and managing venders to manufacture parts of designed prototype.
  • Collaborating with engineers and product managers of joint development partners to proceed all process of development.
  • Developing and performing technical evaluation test and user evaluation with animals or cadaver.

  

Background

  • Bachelor of Science in Physics at minimum, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or motion control design in medical device company, Surgical robot experience and device is much preferred. 
  • Experience to build or modify technical documentations and risk management file.
  • Experience to walk thought all phase of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, verification and validation test.
  • Experience designing transmission component like gear, wire and pully for machining, injection molding, metal injection and 3D printing.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering materials and component selection criteria to product designs through concept development, design analysis, hands-on prototyping, and reliability testing skills.
  • Experience of using CAD to design. CATIA is preferred.
  • Experience of using 3D printer is preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in German and English.
  • Ability to travel in EU, sometimes Japan.
  • Ability to research, gather, digest and summarize technical matter (both clinical and technical)
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment.
  • Work at office/training center in Düsseldorf.
  • Fluent German (native speaker equivalent) and English.
  • Motivation and enjoyment to work primarily in English.
